The Swamp No. 1 and No. 2 Quarries in Topsham, Maine, are globally renowned among mineral collectors for producing some of the world's finest, sharpest, and most mirror-faced uraninite (UO₂) crystals. Discovered in a granite pegmatite in 1958 by 13-year-old Cliff Trebilcock, Jr., the locality yielded remarkable cuboctahedral radioactive specimens with exceptional sub-metallic luster. Today, the historic pits are long flooded, and extracting new specimens is strictly prohibited because the site sits within the protected green-space of the Cathance River Nature Preserve.
Because the locality is no longer actively producing, authentic Swamp Mine uraninite crystals must be sourced from old estate collections and rare mineral dealers.
This is very sharp and shiny with great formations from many views. On the larger side and priced well!
