Compreignacite! 1800's Joachimsthal Becquerelite and Pitchblende in Uraninite
Call me crazy, but when I receive a specimen from 2 turns of the century ago, I have to consider that we dont know everything about jt and I start to wonder what is inside. I split this beauty along a crack and found new minerals within that have since been sent off for testing to reveal the RARE Uranium mineral Compreignacite! This adds to the most current ID which states Becquerelite, Schoepite, Gummite, and Uraninite. I was interested in the dark orange crystal and the UV portion that was uncovered and happy that I investigated. Material like this has long been depleted from this extremely classic locality of Joachimsthal which is now called Jachymov in Cechia. Marie and Pierre Curie sourced their ore for Polonium and Radium Nobel prize winning discoveries here. Quite an exceptional piece. Original label will not be included as I still have half of this antiquated piece from the historic Roepper collection likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.. RARE and attractive material from long ago!
