Compreignacite
French Type Locality for this mineral!
4.7x3.475x1.925 cm
40 grams
Just about 300,000 cpm at the hot spot with a Radiacode 103
Haute-Vienne, France
This piece was from an old collection and originally labeled as "Gummite". Now whenever I see this term I get excited and have to send it off to my good friend who loves decoding these sorts of mysteries. Here are his words...
"Upon examination of this specimen I was surprised that it is chemically identical to compreignacite and being unfamiliar with the locality I was even more surprised to learn that Haute is the type locality for compreignacite. A lot of times the term gummite gets loosely applied to mixtures of uranium minerals, but I prefer to not use gummite for an ID, unless the minerals are so intermixed together that identification becomes impossible. Nice find of Compreignacite from the type locality."
